Thatchers Cider

Digitising tradition with Node4 and Drink-IT

Motorpoint_232778098

The Client

Thatchers Cider has been crafting cider at Myrtle Farm since 1904. What began with William Thatcher’s first batch for farm workers has grown into a thriving, family-owned business employing over 200 people and exporting to 22 countries.

Their award-winning ciders are still matured in the original oak vats, preserving the distinctive taste that defines the brand.

Node4 have a deep understanding of the business processes within the cider making industry; this coupled with their expert knowledge of Drink-IT software were the deciding factors in the selection process. Since implementation, Node4 have continued to work closely with us to optimise the solution as our business has grown and evolved, enabling us to digitise business processes and maximise efficiency.

The Challenge

By 2012, Thatchers had outgrown their existing business systems. With expansion on the horizon, they needed a solution tailored to the beverage industry, and one that could support automation, integration and future growth. The goal was to streamline operations and improve visibility across excise goods and vehicle deployment.

The Solution

Thatchers chose Node4 (formerly TNP) to implement Microsoft Dynamics NAV, enhanced with the beverage-specific Drink-IT add-on. This setup gave them the tools to manage logistics and compliance with precision. In 2013, they went live. As the business evolved, they upgraded the system and adopted our nHanced IP to unlock new functionality and efficiencies.

The Results

The transformation has been significant. Ian Dorling, Head of IT at Thatchers, shared: “TNP have a deep understanding of the business processes within the cidermaking industry; this coupled with their expert knowledge of Drink-IT software were the deciding factors in the selection process. Since implementation, TNP have continued to work closely with us to optimise the solution as our business has grown and evolved, enabling us to digitise business processes and maximise efficiency.”

The collaboration has gone beyond software. Paul Wellingham, Director of Key Accounts at TNP, added that “It’s a really strong and trusted relationship. Thatchers have one of our developers there almost every week. They use lots of our resources and we have taken their ideas on and jointly turned them into tools, sharing the cost. They are a clever bunch of guys and have demoed back things they have done with our nHanced tools that is very impressive.”

Ian echoed this sentiment:
“Our relationship with TNP extends beyond the IT system, they are an integral part of our business. Together we are driving digitisation to improve processes and maximise efficiency across the organisation. The breadth of interaction has delivered massive benefits and is bringing the Thatchers vision to life.”
